Harry Benson argues that giving cohabitating couples the same rights as married couples undermines men’s commitment. I hadn’t thought about it in quite that manner, but my view is that if you want the obligations and benefits of marriage, there is only one thing you need to do to make it happen. Unless you are gay, but they’re increasingly in the same boat.

A new study gets closer to asking what I consider to be the most pertinent questions to ask on the question of whether college is a good idea: What happens when we look at the more marginal cases. When trying to figure out someone whose academic record would place them at Fresno State, we don’t need to consider the wage premiums of places like Berkeley.

Rutgers just lost to Minnesota in the B1G MBB Tournament.

This means, in the last three years, Rutgers has played St John’s, South Florida, Louisville, and Minnesota. None of those 4 teams are currently in the same conference.

Speaking of tournaments, the big game of the day was in C-USA, where Florida International defeated Texas-San Antonio. I wouldn’t have been able to place those teams in C-USA if my life depended on it.

Compare the current C-USA lineup to its lineup in year two, when it first had 12 members. Very sad.

Well, Charlotte and UAB were there back in the day and are there now (for now). So there’s that!

And football had a stellar year last year. Best of any of the non-P5 conferences, so there’s that, too.

      But yeah…

      • Mike Hunt Ray Rice says:

Hey now, don’t forget Brett Favre’s alma mater.

Of course UNCC left for the A-10 before returning, so only UAB and USM are continuous charter members.

What I found most interesting about C-USA was that from 1995-2001, all of its members were from different states. Only when East Carolina and TCU joined did that change.

        • trumwill says:

Charlotte didn’t necessarily leave by choice, it should be noted.

I did indeed forget USM. They have been… very forgettable lately. They chose a bad time to play some bad sports.

Yeah, the original C*USA was, like the Metro/GMW before it and the AAC now, rather indifferent to geography.

        the non-P5 conferences

They are generally referred to as the “Group of 5” conferences.

Dodd-Frank link harkens back to the endless sweatshop conversations.
