Last week, there was a certain celebrity who died.

Why this person was a celebrity, except for being a train wreck and taking off her clothes for all to see, I don’t know.

I had a few people ask me “how I felt” and whether it was “sad.”

My honest return question, because it was the best way to sum up that I had heard: “If a crack whore dies of overdose, why is it news?”

I’m just as confused as you… Half Sigma posted that it made him sad, first of all I thought he was being ironic, then I read people’s comments on it and realized that maybe they were all sad. I honestly don’t get it. I had written it off to the fact that I had never heard of Anna Nicole before that day.

Perhaps I am cruel, but I let out a yawn whenever any celebrity dies. Actually, I yawn at anything about their lives that isn’t related directly to why they are interesting. Why should I carry who they are married to this month? I might want to see their new movie, but the inner details of their life (like their dying) are a waste of my time.

Count me in the “cruel” camp, sad to say. My immediate thought upon hearing that ANS was dead was, “whatever will Larry King talk about from now on?” Why, the protracted paternity suits, of course.

I’m glad I’m not the only one in the “cruel” camp. The only two people I was sad about when they died were Princess Diana (having grown up in England led me to be really interested in the Royal Family) and also F-1 driver Ayrton Senna, not because of him as a person but because of what he represented to Brazil.

I didn’t get the whole Princess Diana thing.

But I feel sad about Anna Nicole.

Generally we feel sad about celebrity deaths when we identify with them, when they represent something to us. There must be some celebrity you feel that way about.

A lot of guys found Anna Nicole really attractive, to put it delicately. It would be a bit callous if they didn’t mourn her a bit, considering what they probably did with her pictures.

Justice. There’s not enough of it in the world.

I wouldn’t feel bad if I were in your shoes either.
