For profit foster homes? Right up there with for profit police & prisons.

Yeah, if the 12th Amendment route would fly in that scenario, then the GOP should just go ahead and do it all the time that they lose elections the normal way. It wouldn’t.

Here’s where I think they could consider it: if Trump were to come out of election night with more EVs than Clinton, but the ex-GOP resistance had laid the groundwork as laid out in the article (so there was the alternative EV-getter). In that case, a partisan-polarized country that cares most about what party holds the WH over specifically who holds it wouldn’t see it as an election being stolen from a party that won fair and square (though they wouldn’t have without the EC majority). Essentially, the GOP Congress could switch out Trump for a non-Trump

I think the public would get behind he idea that Trump Is Different, and if otherwise he would be the president, then this would be a legitimate move. But if Clinton were coming in with more EVs (hence the Will OF The People, though the GOP Congress would dispute that), it would be seen as replacing a non-Trump with a preferred non-Trump, which I don’t think would be viewed differently than if the GOP just started doing this in elections because the could seize the WH so long as the CoDels stayed +25 GOP majority. …Which, again, they could do, but don’t because of reasons.

The issue would be, if they ran the guys necessary to stop an EC majority, which they’d (obviously) have to do before knowing the election outcome, would/could they resist electing a Republicab president over and above a Hillary Clinton who received a plurality of EVs?

“The debates require candidates to be on enough ballots to win a majority vote in the Electoral College…”

    Who requires that?
